Communication can be difficult when we talk at cross purposes and are stuck in unhelpful patterns of relating that give rise to misunderstanding and distress. We don’t feel loved and secure in the midst of our relationship. Couples may find it helpful to have someone separate to support them to obtain perspective and to better get what they each need. With help, two people can develop the capacity to really hear and understand each other.

In my role with couples I am not there to take sides, express judgements or to mediate. Rather, I trust in you both as individuals by empathically hearing you and your different experiences of your relationship. My way of being and working is warm, compassionate and direct. I will do all I can to allay any anxiety you may have about the work together. It is highly likely that a couple is really struggling when they embark on counselling. I understand and respect the trust placed in me when people attend, especially for the first time.

I am committed to supporting the development of empathy between people, particularly when there is misunderstanding due to differences in neurotype. I do not perceive autistic people as being in any way less than others and I work from the social model of disability.
